ALASKA 2023
Three weeks by rental car through Alaska!

After arriving in Anchorage head due north to the Matanuska Valley. Continue to Talkeetna for the flight over Mt. Denali. Drive to Valdez.

Head south to the Kenai Peninsula and the fishing port of Seward. While in Seward, take a glacier cruise in the Gulf of Alaska and walk to the face of one of the Kenai Peninsula’s post popular attractions, Exit Glacier. Nature, history, culture, and play all make this perhaps our most ambitious and fun tour offering ever!

Anchorage
Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage. After you pick up the rental car, transfer to overnight in Anchorage.

Matanuska Valley/ Talkeetna
Day 2: Drive to Matanuska Valley, Alaska’s Farmland. About 45 minutes drive. Visit Hatcher Pass and the goldmine. Great trails for walking. Optional: Visit the musk ox farm. Drive to Talkeetna to overnight.

Talkeetna
Day 3: Flight over Mt. Denali with glacier landing. Tours optional: Guided hiking tours. Overnight in Talkeetna.

Denali
Day 4: Depart Talkeetna and drive north to Denali National Park. Overnight outside of the park. 2 nights. 


Denali National Park
Day 5: By bus through the Park. Watch out for moose, wolf, caribous and bears.

Denali/Fairbanks
Day 6:
Optional tours: by four-wheeler through the park. Guided tour. In the afternoon leave for Fairbanks. 2 nights in Fairbanks.

Fairbanks
7. Tag: Visit the china hot springs, the museum and the city.




Valdez
Day 8: Leave Fairbanks in the morning for Glennallen. And continue to Valdez. On the way visit North Pole with Santa Claus house. The Copper Center and Worthington glacier. 2 nights
in Valdez.

Valdez
Day 9: There are several optional tours available from Valdez. Fishing; Kayak tours to the Columbia glacier - stay one night in the wilderness lodge. Rafting tours on the Tonsina River and Tasana River.

Matanuska Valley
Day 10: Leave Valdez and drive back to Copper Center for a visit. There, you can see the museum from the gold rush time. Also a lodge which is now a restaurant. Great place to eat. Continue to Glennallen (always gas up in Glennallen) to Matanuska glacier to overnight in quaint cabins. 2 nights.

Matanuska Valley
Day 11:  Optional tour: Guided walk on the glacier.


Seward

Day 12: Drive to Seward. Visit the Exit glacier. Optional tour: Visit the Sea life center.

Around Seward are many hiking trails. 3 nights at a B & B.

Seward
Day 13:  11.15 am start  the boat tour through Kenai Fjords National Park and the Gulf of Alaska. Sea lions, sea otters, puffin and eagles can be seen on this tour. Lunch will be served on board.

 

 

Seward
Day 14: Day on your own. Optional Tours: Fish for Halibut or Salmon.

Homer
Day 15: Continue your journey to Homer to see the Russ. Orth. Church in Ninilchick. You can walk on the beach. Or have a picnic on the beach, if weather permits. Stop at Anchor Point for another beach walk. Very often eagle can be seen there. Continue to Homer to overnight in amazing Chalets with the view of the ocean and glaciers. 4 nights in Homer.

Homer
Day 16: By plane to the coast of Katmai for bear viewing. Highlight of the Tour ! See the Grizzlies close by. an amazing and unforgettable adventure.

Day 17/18: Optional Tours  and adventure: Halibut- / Salmon fishing; Boat tour to Seldovia. A village which can only be reached by boat or small plane; Guided Kayak Tour.

Girdwood/Alyeska                                                                                                           

Day 19 -  20:  Drive along the Kenai Peninsula through Soldotna to Girdwood 2 nights in Alyeska. Several optional tours are available. By helicopter to the glacier. The huskies are waiting. Here you have the opportunity to be your own musher. Or, helicopter tour over the glacier world of Prince William Sound.

 

Anchorage
Day 21: Day on your own in Anchorage.

End of the tour
Day 22: Return the rental car. Transfer to the airport. Or continue on another tour.
